  • Moody’s reviews ratings of European banks
    We are reviewing the ratings of numerous financial institutions (counted by group) across 16 European countries to reflect the combined pressures from (i) the adverse and prolonged impact of the euro area crisis, (ii) the deteriorating creditworthiness of euro area sovereigns, and (iii) the substantial longer-term challenges faced by banks and securities firms with significant capital market activities. We believe that these pressures overshadow mitigating factors, such as the currently supportive stance of many governments towards their banking systems and their accommodative monetary policies...   • Moody's reviews ratings of global investment banks
    We are reviewing the ratings of 17 banks and securities firms with global capital markets operations based on our assessment that their longer-term profitability and growth prospects have weakened. The main drivers of this assessment are the difficult operating and funding conditions, wider credit spreads and increased regulatory burdens, as well as the banks’ inherent vulnerabilities, such as confidence-sensitivity, interconnectedness and opacity of risk.
